Collection 01: Tidal Whispers

We’re thrilled to introduce our first collection, Tidal Whispers. Created by Sarah, this collection draws from her lifelong passion for journaling and ceramics. Her journey with clay began years ago in Istanbul, where she studied under a master potter and fell in love with the craft.

Later, she moved to San Francisco to work as a graphic designer and discovered a beautiful ceramics studio there, which rekindled her passion. In 2023, she returned to country Queensland, seeking time and space to dedicate herself fully to this art form. Over the past two years, she has nurtured and shaped Tidal Whispers, refining every detail by hand. Each piece is hand-built slowly using traditional slab, coil, and pinch techniques. Now, she knows deep within that it’s time to share it with the world.

Clay, Culture, and Connection

Having explored diverse and beautiful cultures around the world, Sarah has observed the unique ways people gather and share food, using ceramic vessels imbued with meaning. Reflecting on how different cultures celebrate food and connection, Sarah is reminded of why she loves working with clay. It’s not just the act of creation; it’s the joy of seeing how these creations bring people together.

Clay is a bridge between the earth and ourselves, a tactile connection that grounds us in the natural world. Dug, shaped, and fired, it carries the story of the elements: earth, water, wind, and fire, all working together to create something enduring. Working with clay is an act of intimacy, its softness reflects the roundness and fluidity of our bodies, while its strength mirrors our resilience and capacity for transformation.

From Journal to Clay

Sarah’s journal has always been her sanctuary, a space to capture thoughts, experiences, and observations through sketches and notes. Guided by curiosity, she views the world as a tapestry of patterns and symbols, which forms the foundation of this ceramic collection. Featuring 20 illustrations inspired by her journals, each piece transforms personal narratives into tangible, visual forms, inviting you to create your own stories as you engage with them

The black-and-white drawings in Sarah’s journals strip back anything unnecessary; they are as honest as diary entries, as unembellished as stones on a beach.
By transferring journal entries and drawings that hold deep personal meaning onto handmade ceramic pieces, she invites others to carry the story forward. These ceramics are not just objects, they’re part of a shared experience. When used to serve food and enjoy meals with loved ones, they become part of the user's story too.

A Final Note

Sarah hopes you enjoy this collection as much as she’s loved creating it.
Tidal Whispers is an offering from years of observing, sketching, remembering, and making. These pieces carry her stories, but they’re also made to hold yours, through everyday rituals, quiet moments, and shared meals.
Whether displayed, gifted, or used, may they become part of your own rhythm, your own remembering.

DR01. Finite in the Infinite

In the grand expanse of the cosmos, we are but one among billions. It’s a wild thought, one that I can never fully comprehend. Though seemingly insignificant, each of us is part of a vast tapestry. I turn to dotting to remind myself of this. We share a journey through space and time, connected by our collective impact. I love the thought of how tiny I am in this magical, miraculous life. I am, we are, just one tiny dot and every dot burns bright.

DR02. Global Friendship Tapestry

Friendship is one of the most beautiful gifts in life, transcending cultural and geographical boundaries. It provides unwavering support in both joyful and challenging times. This sketch honours and expresses my deep appreciation for the unique friendships I've formed around the world. Each and every one of you is special and I will hold you deeply for a lifetime.

DR03. Transient Timeless Presence

This present moment, here and now, is where we all exist. Breathing in unison. It’s fleeting, it’s transient. Each breath shapes this moment, embracing it with consciousness. Here and now is all we truly have.

DR04. The Perpetual Swing of Life

Life’s journey is a continuous swing of highs and not-so-high highs. It's an ongoing rhythm of ebbs and flows, bringing something new every moment. Embracing this perpetual dance allows us to find balance and resilience, recognising that both joy and sorrow are integral to the experience of being human.

DR05. Strength within Vulnerability

This piece was inspired by spending a winter in Scandinavia. The ghostly and moody light of winter, even in its brief moments, casts shadows that dust surfaces and breathes new life into the atmosphere. It's akin to a husky voice or a fleeting dance, drawing you inward to a place of vulnerability. This reflection leads me to realise that vulnerability is the essence of strength.

DR06. Shared Humanity

A friend recently told me that her priority is to bring joy to at least one person each day. Her words stayed with me and remind me how powerful it is to be present. Our need for human connection has never been greater. By extending kindness and showing up for one another, we can rebuild a world led by compassion and understanding.

DR07. Bound with Bonds

While we don’t choose family, we have the power to make and choose the community that surrounds us, our extended family. Why are we drawn to certain people? Sometimes it’s obvious; often it’s a mystery. I’m deeply grateful to have found meaningful communities wherever I’ve lived. They remind me how important it is to nurture those connections.

DR08. Happiness

Here is a question that circles my mind endlessly: What is happiness? I find that it lies somewhere in between curiosity and being captivated by the world around us. This world also holds pain, uncertainty and many things that challenge our faith, but there is also magic and undeniable wonder. How fortunate we are to be here to witness it, feel it, and live it.

DR09. Moving Particles

In the vast expanse of the universe, particles dance. Their numbers staggering. Minuscule entities, often invisible to the naked eye, form the foundation of all matter from the smallest grain of sand to the most distant star. Each particle, whether atom or subatomic component, moves in a ceaseless quest dictated by fundamental forces. Their movements collectively shape the very fabric of reality and remind me of the profound complexity and beauty that underpins this universe.

DR10. Bonded by our Breaks

As a human race, we’re shaped by countless fractures. We can bond through brokenness and grow closer in shared vulnerability. In hard times, those who love us gather, forming a protective shield. This piece was inspired by a tragedy involving an aunt we deeply cherish. Despite it all, we emerged stronger, with a love and bond more resilient than ever. A gentle reminder to self: care for one another and reach out to those you love often.

DR11. Echoes of Memories

I often become lost in thought, wandering through memories that shape my past. Each stirs up a tide of emotions. There’s a quiet comfort when sinking into these moments. They hold me like a gentle embrace. We never know when they might fade, which makes every moment of reflection feel even more precious.

DR12. Tapestry of Life

Life is woven from a myriad of unique experiences. Each experience contributes to our individual existence. The rich tapestry created by this weave tells the story of who we are. Every thread represents a different memory loomed from experience, a loom that is always working, always adding new threads, new memories to the tapestry, in the masterpiece that is every person’s life.

DR13. Disrupting the System

In today's rapidly evolving world, the need for critical thinking has never been more crucial. As technology continues to permeate every aspect of our lives, and as some leaders increasingly exhibit cult-like behaviour, it is essential we maintain our ability to think independently and challenge the status quo. The systems in place often attempt to confine us to a single mode of thinking or behaviour, failing to recognise the rich diversity of human experience and the unique perspectives each person brings.

DR14. Interconnected

A quick trip to the shops is an opportunity to visit the butcher, pick up a parcel, and chat with a friend. Each encounter, no matter how brief, adds to the intricate web of relationships that bind us together. The inspiration and elevated feelings we get from connecting with others is possibly life’s most exhilarating prize.

DR15. You Will Not Silence Us

In a modern age still marred by inequality, countless vulnerable groups continue to endure injustice. Now is the time to raise our voices louder than ever. We must stand united and declare: they cannot and will not silence us. Silence in the face of suffering and injustice makes us complicit. We must speak out and stand together, for we are all part of the solution, and the responsibility lies with all of us to create a more just and equitable world.

DR16. Be Nice, Be Kind

It’s simple, isn’t it? In a world where unkindness seems all too common, let’s remember that the simplest gift we can offer one another is kindness. Each of us carries our own stories and walks a unique path, and we sometimes fail to consider what someone else is going through. I felt compelled to include this illustration in the series because now, more than ever, the world urgently needs this message. I need this message.

DR17. The Rhythm of Time

Time has a strange way of moving, sometimes racing, sometimes crawling. Like a river, it flows forward, carrying us with it. It can feel both harsh and tender, shaping how we experience life. As moments pass, we’re reminded to slow down and appreciate what’s right in front of us. Time, like waves on the shore, comes and goes — reminding us that everything is fleeting, and that’s what makes it beautiful.

DR18. The Chorus

After spending many years overseas, my visits back to Australia left me completely captivated by the vibrant and eclectic sounds of its birds, various animals and insects. Their noisy choruses, filled with laughter, screeches, and shrills, felt at times like a lively comedy act. These unique sounds contribute to my appreciation for this amazing country, my home. Perhaps this is why some of us Aussies often possess a humorous side; we’re just mirroring the quirky antics of our creatures.

DR19. Aussie Animals

This is an ode to Australian animals, some of the most wonderfully bizarre and beautiful creatures you’ll encounter. From kangaroos hopping and sulfur-crested cockatoos screeching to wombats waddling and platypuses platyposing, each wild Aussie is spectacular. Animals make the world richer, and it’s our responsibility to care for them. Too often, humans disrupt their environments, acting as bullies to creatures we should protect. It’s time we show them the respect and care they deserve.

DR20. Resilience

I’m sensing a powerful resilience in the air, and a strength rising in response to the many challenges we faced globally. Despite it all, there’s a feeling of unyielding determination and collective awakening. This resilience isn’t just about enduring; it’s about adapting, growing, and finding new ways to build a better future. A stronger force emerging, ready to overcome the challenges and push forward.
